چکیده

Interictal MEG dipoles associated with temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) can be classified according to localization and orientation into anterior temporal horizontal (ATH), anterior temporal vertical and posterior temporal vertical (PTV) dipoles [1, 2, 3]. The MEG dipole pattern may be related to the seizure onset zone [2, 3] or symptomatology [4]. These dipoles are considered to originate from the temporal tip, superior temporal plane and basal temporal cortex [1]. The scalp EEG/MEG dipole is the summation of cortical activity over a wide area because extensive epileptic activity is required to produce adequate electrical potentials/magnetic fields detectable through the skull and scalp [1, 5]. Little is known about the relationship between actual cortical activities and MEG findings [6]. This study estimated interictal spike dipoles by MEG for comparison with electrocorticography (ECoG) findings.

Currentodensitogram of SAM virtual sensors compared with simultaneously recorded ECoG

1 Introduction Equivalent current dipole (ECD) analysis for mag-netoencephalogram (MEG) has been useful in screening the localization of the epileptogenic zone, even though MEG was recorded in the interictal period [1] [2]. However, it requires several mathematical restrictions and often fails to estimate confidential current sources. Therefore the epileptogenic area derived from the ECD analys...

Interpretation of MEG spike source localization in frontal lobe epilepsy with multiple independent spike foci

Magnetic source imaging using a whole-head MEG system provides a more accurate localization of epileptic focus than other routinely used noninvasive methods such as scalp video EEG and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) [1-3]. However, MEG source localization, as estimated by the single dipole and spherical model, may not fully describe an epileptic region that includes extensive or multiple epil...

Usefulness of synthetic aperture magnetometry for presurgical evaluation in the epilepsy surgery

1 Introduction Selecting the surgical candidate for medically intractable epilepsy, detection and localization of seizure focus and cerebral functions are essential for diagnosis, for localization of surgical treatment and for prevention of surgical complications. Due to the limitations of noninvasive evaluations, invasive examinations, such as chronic ECoG grid recording, cortical stimulation ...

Complementary use of video-electroencephalography and magnetoencephalography in frontal lobe epilepsy

PURPOSE The aim of this study was to compare magnetoencephalography (MEG) and video-electroencephalography (VEEG) source localization in frontal lobe epilepsy (FLE) and determine if these methods can be complementary to each other in clinical practice. METHOD Thirty patients with pharmaco-resistant FLE who underwent epilepsy surgery were retrospectively enrolled. Video EEG was recorded using ...

METHODS FOR DETECTING HIGH-FREQUENCY OSCILLATIONS IN ONGOING BRAIN SIGNALS: APPLICATION TO THE DETERMINATION OF EPILEPTIC SEIZURE ONSET ZONES Chiran D. Doshi, B.S. Marquette University, 2011 Epilepsy is a neurological disorder with varied expression. Patients with focal onset seizures that are resistant to medications can benefit from ablative surgery. However, localization of the seizure onset...
